Robert D. Buckhotlz, 66, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
Bob was born on January 22, 1949, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Stoltze ) Buckholtz. Bob attended Riverside schools until the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska in the early 1960's and lived there for ten years. After working on an oil rig off the Alaskan coast, he became interested in making ceramics. He sold many ceramic items up there and eventually decided to move back to Sioux City.
He worked at a few meat packing plants while continuing to build his ceramic business. He opened a shop on Pearl Street and named it "The Magic Mushroom Ceramics." He worked at the Armour Pork and John Morrell casing department in Sioux City.
His first marriage was to Debra Hindman and their daughter Bobbie was born. He later married Linda Dailey and their daughter Robin was born. He later moved to Denison and went to work for IBP. He was a member of the Denison Baptist Church.
In Denison he met and married Ruth Fletcher. He remained at the IBP plant after Tyson bought it and retired from Tyson Food.
After the passing of his third wife, Bob returned to Sioux City where he lived at Prime Assisted Living with his brother, Gary.
Bob will always be remembered for his very kind heart and his thoughtfulness toward people. He never knew a stranger. During his life, he enjoyed horses, swimming and painting, plus he had the ability to get people to laugh. He also enjoyed reading the Bible.
He is survived by his brothers Bill (Peggy) and Gary, all of Sioux City; and his two daughters, Bobbie (Paul) Zeimen of Baxter, Iowa and Robin (Scott) Bohlin of Arion, Iowa; his step-children Brad Fletcher of Denison, Brian (Jean) Fletcher of Denison, Leann (Jeff) Summerfield of Sloan; and 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dorothy Buckhotlz and his wife, Ruth.
