Robert E. Bennett, 80, of Lawton, Iowa died Sunday, July 31 at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City. A Celebration of life will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Moville United Methodist Church. Waterbury Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born February 16, 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of LeRoy and Berta (Perrett) Bennett. He grew up in Riverside, attending West Middle and Central High School. Robert married Patricia Weigel May 7, 1956. Together they made their home in Leeds, moving to the farm near Lawton, Iowa in 1967. Robert farmed and worked for over 50 years with Union Pacific Railroad. Patricia died November 14, 2006.
Robert loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed eating and watching old western TV shows and movies, and had restored a Ford Model A.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathi (Marlin) Groth of Moville, IA, and Kim (Rick) Riherd of Salix, IA; an extended daughter, Mara Gott of Bellevue, NE; 9 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; and a brother, LeRoy ‘Prunes’ Bennett.
