Roanne Carol Porter, 86, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully at her home on December 24, 2025. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation 1 hour prior at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Roanne was born on October 1, 1939, in Paullina, Iowa, the second of ten children, all thoughtfully named beginning with the letter “R”, born to Edwin Gustaf Kluender and Vera Kathryn (Ebel) Kluender. She attended Central High School in Sioux City.
Roanne lived a life marked by quiet strength, kindness, and dependability. She worked for many years in local grocery stores, including Piggly Wiggly and National Foods, and earlier worked nights at Kraft Foods, where she made marshmallows. Later, she became a trusted bookkeeper and partner in Raymond Porter’s construction business. Together, they lived in several states, made many friends, and shared a life of work, travel, adventures, and companionship.
Roanne enjoyed quilting, playing cards, visiting with family and friends, and traveling with Ray. She valued peace and harmony and was known within her large family as a gentle presence and natural peacekeeper. In later years, she found comfort attending church services, especially when joined by her grandson, Corey.
Roanne met Raymond Porter in the early 1980s, and they were married on January 23, 1990, in Key West, Florida.
Roanne’s life included meaningful relationships and seasons that shaped her family and the person she became.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Raymond Porter; her daughter, Pam (Pierre) Doyon; and the children she loved as her own, Rhonda Callahan, Cindy (Mike) Thomas, and Doug (Michelle Thompson) Porter; (10) grandchildren and (19) great-grandchildren; and her siblings Ruth (Wayne) Smith, Roger Kluender, Ronda Reitz, RomaLee Johnson, Rosemary (Rick) Alter, RolaJean (Richard) Sowienski, and Randy (Gam) Kluender.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Russell Kluender and Reva O'Connor.
