Obituary

Rita Schlotman of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2023, surrounded by her closest family and friends after fighting a brave bout with cancer.

Services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 10am at the Waterbury Funeral Home in Sioux City, Ia. Visitation with family will be held one hour prior to services.

Rita was born on April 3, 1976, to Rick and Mary (Snyder) Christensen in Sioux City. She was raised in rural Hinton. She graduated from Hinton Community High School in 1994, and in what came to be her way, wasted no time getting started with growing a life and a family to be proud of.

Rita and Sid Mosher married in 1995 and, to this union, Rita’s most cherished achievements were born, her sons Cody and Dayton Mosher.

A dedicated worker her whole life through, Rita worked at Casey’s General Store during high school. She then took a job at the Sioux City Foundry, then The Little Welding Store, a division of The Foundry. Rita quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the first female Division Manager. Higher ups recognized Rita’s knack for marketing immediately and put her to work producing a number of radio spots; she became locally known as “Rita from the Little Welding Store” due to her on-air work.

In 2003 Rita discovered her one true passion: real estate. After obtaining her license, Rita signed on with Coldwell Banker where she quickly realized her life’s work. She found an entire community in real estate, working tirelessly at matchmaking those wanting to sell with those wanting to buy. Her natural bubbly spirit and enthusiasm helped close numerous sales and garnered hundreds of referrals; Rita was always excited to help her clients, knowing that both parties would walk away happy. She formed many friendships along the way with this profession.

Her health problems were no match for her love of sales and, despite fighting cancer, Rita continued to succeed. Subsequently, she was celebrated three consecutive years, 2020, 2021, and 2022 as Agent of the Year for Coldwell Banker Associated Brokers.

In her “free time” she also did commercial cleaning in the evenings and on weekends for numerous years.

Work wasn’t always Rita’s focus, however, as she found all kinds of time for the things she enjoyed most, spending time with family and friends. She loved hanging out in her back yard splashing around, bird watching (minus the squirrels), fishing and camping. She also loved being inside making crafts, especially with her cricut. Above all, Rita enjoyed life and loved a good gathering of friends; she was the life of the party wherever she went. Her contagious laugh and beautiful smile will never be forgotten by many.

She is survived by her two sons, Cody Mosher (Amanda Howard) and Dayton Mosher (Shaylyn Beavers), all of Sioux City, Ia; her parents, Rick & Mary Christensen of Merrill, Ia; brother Jesse Christensen (Samantha) of Merrill and her nieces and nephews. Rita will be dearly missed by her family, her real estate community and countless friends, old and new, she made along the way during her all-too-short 46 years on Earth.

Rita was preceded in death by her brother Richard, her paternal and maternal grandparents and her dear friend Jill Schwartz.
