Richard S. Wilen, Sr, 84 of Sioux City, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at his residence.
Graveside services with Military Honors provided by the US Marine Corps will be held 2 pm Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Richard Stanley Wilen was born on November 10, 1936 in Sioux City, the son of Myrick and Iva (Nelson) Wilen. He attended schools in Sioux City and enlisted in the Marine Corps on December 22, 1953, and served during the Korean War, honorably discharged in 1956. Upon his return to Sioux City, he worked at the Swift Packing plant.
On March 14, 1958 Richard was united in marriage to Evelyn Leffler. While still working for Swift, during the mid-1980’s he owned and operated Wilen Cleaning. Later he worked for the Dakota City Schools, retiring in 1998.
Richard’s interest was in motorcycles, Volkswagens and working on 1950’s cars.
Richard is survived by his wife Evelyn, sons Richard (Kimberly) Wilen, Jr. of Peculiar, Missouri and Michael (Nancy Richardson) Wilen of Sioux City, his daughter Michelle (Steve) Blume of Sioux City, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, his brothers Robert and Rick, and his sister, Becky.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
