Obituary

Richard Lee Tainter, age83, of Corona, California, formerly of Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff died at his home in Corona on Thursday April 12, 2012 .
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 20, 2012 at 10:30am at Shepherd of The Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-8pm with the family present from 6-8pm at Waterbury Funeral Service. Online condolences for the family may be made at www.waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com.

Richard was born in Sioux City on May 3, 1928, the son of Cryus and Kathryn (Baker) Tainter. He attended Sioux City Community Schools, and graduated from Sioux City East High School with the class of 1946. He was united in marriage with Mildred Godfredson in Sioux City in 1948, and to this union four children were born. The couple lived in Sioux City and later moved to Sergeant Bluff.

Richard was a partner and later owner of Tainter Brothers Dry Goods for more than forty years. He and Milly retired and moved to Corona in 1994.

Richard was a 40 year member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City, a former member of the Sioux City Excahnge Club,and was currently a member of Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church in Lake Elsinore, California. He served on the Sergeant Bluff school board for several years where he was instrumental in planning for the current buildings serving the school district.

He was a avid reader, who also enjoyed playing golf, tennis and dancing. Richard and family spent many summers in the Okoboji area enjoying the time away from home. The couple and their entire family celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas in 1998.

Richard will be missed by his wife of 63 ½ years Milly of Corona, his sons Thomas Tainter and wife Laurel of Sergeant Bluff, Tony Tainter and his wife Donna of West Des Moines, Iowa; his daughters Terri Graham and her husband George of Madison, Wisconsin, and Traci Temple of Vermillion, South Dakota. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Tainter, sister Shirley, and great-grandson Issac Temple.
