IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Scottie"
Scott
February 5, 1934 – June 2, 2025
Richard “Scottie” Scott, of Sioux City, IA, left this earth on June 2, 2025, to go to his heavenly home.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 7:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City.
A graveside service with military honors is pending at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Scottie was born on February 5, 1934, in Twin Lakes, WI, the last of 10 children born to William and Minnie Scott. When they took one look at him, they said it was enough. Scottie lived in Wilmont, WI until he was 18. In high school he excelled in football, track, and basketball. After high school he enlisted into the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he traveled quite a bit, not that he always wanted to go, but because it was his job and he went where they sent him - Parks Air Force Base, CA, Rapid City, SD, and Sioux City, IA. Little did he know Sioux City would change his life forever. Here he met the love of his life, Jeannine Sorensen. On February 25, 1955, they were united in marriage. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children: Tafi (Craig) Lorinser, Sioux City, IA, Thomas (Mary) Scott, Reno, NV, Toni (Mark Lux) Scott, Garretson, SD, and Timothy (Michelle) Scott, Dallas, GA. The blessings have continued with 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The Air Force sent them many places, places they loved and some they didn’t, but it was a wonderful adventure. From Sioux City, he spent a year in Thule, Greenland; 2 years in Clovis, NM; 5 years at Elmendorf Base in AK; 1 year in Laredo, TX; an isolated tour in Vietnam; 4 years at Williams Air Force Base in AZ and 2 years in Spangdahlem Germany. After 22 years, we left our beloved Air Force.
Scottie continued working at IBP and then the post office here in Sioux City. The “Great” Scott was a very beloved husband, an amazing father and grandfather. He is already greatly missed. To know him was to know love and nothing but kindness.
A note from his wife:
My dearly beloved of 70 years - goodbye until we are reunited again. I would like to send a special thanks to all the wonderful people that work for hospice. They have given nothing short of wonderful care to my husband. All these months, years have become dear friends to us, and we will miss them. Thank you again.
