Obituary

Richard “Dick” Carliton Peterson, age 73, of Sioux City died Saturday November 10, 2012 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 14, 2012 at 10:30am from Morningside Lutheran Church with Rev. Darrin Vick officiating. Interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8pm with the family present from 6-8 with a prayer service held at 7:00pm at the church. Waterbury Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Richard was born on June 18, 1939 in Hornick, Iowa the son of Lawrence W. and Irene (McCune) Peterson. Richard served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. Following his service time, Richard began working in sales at Slutsky Auto Parts, he then worked for American Gear United Wholesale, then he began working at Sams Club until retiring in 2002.

Richard was united in marriage with Sheila Newman on May 26, 1990 at Morningside Lutheran Church. He had been involved in professional country music since 1962 participating in his two bands Countyrmusic’s Men and the Wild Country Pride Band. He also played with several other groups and enjoyed playing at local care facilities and other local venues. The highlight of his music career was having Patsy Cline play in a set with him as well as backing up Ernest Tubb. He also played with Taj Mahal.

He loved to fish , hunt and coached his children in Little League for a few years. He also enjoyed Archery. Richard was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, South Sioux City Eagles, The Country Music Association and Monahan Post #64 of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Sheila of Sioux City, his son Rex of Sioux City, his daughters: Valerie Celene of Sana Cruz, California, Cynthia Kramer and her husband Mike of Sioux City, and Elizabeth of Sioux City. He is also survived by a brother Donald Peterson of Sloan, a sister-in-law Carol-Lynn Peterson of Sloan his seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Aaron, grandson Dylan, and an uncle Clarence McCune.
