Obituary

Richard E. Mathieson, 65, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, February 16, at a local hospital following a long, courageous battle with Cancer. A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 3PM at The Throttle on HWY. 75, next to Navarette’s. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Rick was born on June 1, 1949 to Adolph and Constance (Way) Mathieson, in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School in 1967 and went on to complete his Apprenticeship in Carpentry in 1973. Rick was a construction worker for many years. In 1980-81 he graduated from Western Iowa Tech with a degrees in Architectural-Construction Drafting and Architectural-Construction Engineering Technology. He was owner/operator of Soo Satellite Systems from 1983 until his retirement in 2014.
Rick married Darla Teska at St. Boniface Catholic Church on October 18, 1969. He was happily married to his high school sweetheart for 44 years until her untimely death in March of 2014. Rick enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and boating. Rick and Darla spent many happy hours boating on the Missouri River and were members of the Sioux City Boat Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Brian) Brausen of St. Paul, MN; his son Jon Mathieson and grandson Jack Mathieson both of Melbourne, Florida; and his two sisters Diane (Patrick) Schwarte and Elizabeth Sturgeon from Sioux City. Rick is also survived by close family friends, Pam Ericson and Tommy Combs. He leaves behind his beloved pet dog, Lily, and cat, Joey.
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Darla (Teska) Mathieson; his parents; a brother, Ronald Mathieson; and sister, Maxine Brekke.
