Richard C. Jahnke, 78, of Sioux City, Iowa went home Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at a local hospital. Memorial services will be held 11:00am Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.
Richard was born August 6, 1938 near Luzerne, Iowa the son of Richard H. and Louise (Spitznagle) Jahnke. He attended school in Belle Plaine, graduating from Belle Plaine High School. After graduation, Richard farmed on the family farm and joined the Army National Guard, serving for seven years. He married Kay Pritchett Evans in February of 1963. Together they made their home in Vail and later Schleswig, Iowa before moving to Sioux City in 1968. Over the years, Richard worked for IBP and Farmland before becoming a Government Meat Inspector.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Richard was an avid reader, liked to work on word puzzles, loved to go camping and was a Hawkeye fan and Rams fan. He also collected beer mugs.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Jahnke of Sioux City; six children, Christine Link of Davenport, IA., Thomas Evans of Lincoln, NE., Traci Evans of Omaha, NE., Lisa (Roger) Olson of Sioux Falls, SD., Richard W. Jahnke of Sioux City, IA., and Michael (Connie) Jahnke of Sioux City, IA; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Blanchard of Belle Plaine, IA; and brother-in-law, Richard (Marilyn) Pritchett of Marion, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Karen VanNorton.
