Obituary

Richard D. “Dick” Hartman, 78 of Sioux City, died Monday, August 26, 2013 at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be held 11 am Saturday, August 31, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Greg Hanneman officiating. Burial was in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 pm Friday, with the Prayer Service at 7 pm, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service. Dick was born on May 9, 1935 in Alcester, South Dakota, the son of Edwin “Bud” and Gladys (Ellingsen) Hartman. He started working for the Sioux City Stockyards in September of 1953. In 1969, he began working as a hog buyer for United Pack and John Morrell, in the later years he was a country hog buyer. Dick retired in 1995 and enjoyed every day since. He also enjoyed his time spent in his garden.

Dick married Lois J. Finch in Hawarden, Iowa in May of 1956. She passed away in 1987. To this union, they had two sons and one daughter. Dick married Karen J. (Rozell) Oltmanns in October of 1992.

Survivors include his wife Karen, children: Matthew of Sergeant Bluff, Mark (friend, Deb Bell) of Sioux City, and Lori (Mike) Martin of Cottage Grove Minn., two granddaughters Brittani Fay and Ashley Hartman, two grandsons Colby Hartman and Cameron Fay, two step-grandsons Austin Martin and Brandon Baus, great grandson Brenden Fay, step great grandson Trevor Baus, brothers Don of Sioux City and Eldean “Short” (Janet) of Alcester, S.D., sister Geri (Vernon) Monson of Lennox, S.D, and many relatives and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, and many relatives and friends.

Per his wishes, Richard has been cremated, may he rest in peace.

Anyone that knew Dick will understand this:
“His hobbies include sky diving, mountain climbing, swimming across large lakes and rivers, and short walks on sandy beaches during high tide.”
