Richard J. Bruce, 50, of Sioux City, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Friday, February 10, 2017 at his residence. Services will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. A visitation will be held 4-8 with family present from 6-8 and a celebration of life service at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery following services.
Rich was an inspiration to so many people because of his determination to conquer this disease. Through the ups and downs, he began to have a clearer understanding of his faith, This turning point was a tremendous witness of forgiveness and redemption found only in Jesus Christ. Because of his transformation, Rich gained a much clearer understanding of marriage and he also brought much healing within his family.
Rich had a deep appreciation of family. He lovingly cared for his father during his illness to the very end. He continued to care for mother. Rich's kindness to his parents was unsurpassed.
Rich was born and raised in Sioux City to Harold and Angela (Max) Bruce. He married Wendy Mace-Tompkins on February 24, 2012.
Rich worked at Wilson Trailer for 20 years, along with Family Practice for 23 years. In May of 2015, he started a new career with Tyson Foods as a night supervisor.
Rich was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He also loved taking walks with his wife, his dogs Sammy and Spencer, and doing yard work. Rich also enjoyed serving at his church by mowing the lawn. He was also very generous.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy Bruce of Sioux City; mother, Angela Bruce of Sioux City; siblings, Dan (Rhonda) Bruce of Norwalk, IA, Cathy (Don) Mitchell of Sioux Falls, Kajsa (Mark) Wingert of Ames, IA. Rich was also the proud uncle of Matt, Kelsey, Kayley and Emily Bruce, Zach, Nick, and Brandi Mitchell, and Allee and Annee Wingert.
Rich was preceded in death by his father, Harold; his sister, Karen; and grandparents, Manfred and Christine Max and Harold and Mary Bruce.
