Obituary

Richard A. “Butch” Poulsen, 74, of South Sioux City, died Thursday, September 10, 2020.

Memorial services will be held 10 am Wednesday, September 16, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave, with Military Honors provided by the Navy. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Tuesday, September 15 with the family present 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Butch was born on October 4, 1945 in Sioux City, the son of John and Ruth (Matthews) Poulsen. He attended schools in Sioux City, and then enlisted in the Navy on November 26, 1963. He served during Vietnam aboard the USS Long Beach, and during his tour of duty had also visited Naples, Italy, the Panama Canal, Hong Kong and the Philippine Islands.

On October 22, 1966 Butch was united in marriage to Sandra Neill in Long Beach, California. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Sioux City and worked at several plumbing services, including Culligan, Dryden Plumbing, Hagen Plumbing and Hopkins Plumbing.

Butch enjoyed going to car shows, following NASCAR and drag racing. He had been on the Plumbing and Housing Board in South Sioux City and was a member of the Sioux City Strollers Car Club.

Butch is survived by his son, Brian Poulsen of Mondamin, daughter, Amy Jo (Chad) Barber of Bronson, grandchildren; Chey (Chad), Jesse, Amanda, Cody, Cassy (Kasey) Toni, Dylan (Ashley), Bailey and Braden, great grandchildren; Jamison, Sophie, Finley, Taryn, Rian, Aubrey and Kaydience, his brothers, Sam (Lynn) Poulsen of Storm Lake, Kenny (Deb) Poulsen of Sioux City, Terry (Ginger) Poulsen of Hornick, Larry Poulsen of Sioux City, Scott (Donna) Poulsen of Oyens, and Jerritt Poulsen of New Port Richey, Florida, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, parents, brother, John Franklin, a great-granddaughter, Addison Heins and a sister-in-law, Amelia Poulsen.
