Raymond Lewis Bursell, 72, of Elk Point, SD, passed away September 18, 2026. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion, SD. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Raymond L. Bursell, 72, passed away on September 18, 2026. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on February 1, 1954. He was raised in South Sioux City, Nebraska, where he attended school and grew up as part of a large blended family with nine brothers and sisters. Family was always an important part of Raymond’s life, and he carried that love with him throughout the years.

Raymond was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged after completing his service obligation.

In May 1978, Raymond married Sherri Flat in Clay County, South Dakota. Together they welcomed two children, their daughter Dawn in 1980 and their son Corey in 1983. Although Raymond and Sherri later parted ways in 1987, Raymond remained devoted to his children and cherished his family deeply. He was heartbroken by the loss of his beloved daughter, Dawn, in 2011.

Raymond worked alongside his brother-in-law, Duane, at Beerman Brothers Dehy in Dakota City for many years. He later became self-employed, taking pride in his work and providing for his family.

Raymond loved his family and always put them first. He had a deep love for the outdoors and was happiest spending time fishing, hunting, camping, and boating. These were the moments he treasured most—being outside, enjoying nature, and making memories with the people he loved.

Raymond will be lovingly remembered by his son, Corey, of Garden Valley, Idaho; his sisters, Mary (Norman) Haugen of Sioux City, Iowa and Carolyn (Emil) Nelson, of Norfolk, Nebraska; and his brother, Edward Bursell of Sioux City, Iowa; his grandchildren Hannah, Corey Jr. Emmet, Charles, Maddison, Makaveli and Mileena and one great granddaughter. He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and Darlene; his daughter, Dawn; his brothers, Roger, Bruce, Armond, and Kenneth; and his sisters, Pat and Ardis.

Pallbearers are Corey Bursell, Ryan Leedom, Cody Parrish, Robert Beldin, Dan Haugen and Shaun Haugen

Raymond leaves behind a legacy of love for his family, a lifetime of memories, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors he loved so much. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
