Randy Dean Birkes, 56, of Sioux City, IA. passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Service will be held 7pm Tuesday, March 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 Jackson Street. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Randy Dean Birkes was born on Tuesday, July 13, 1965 to James and Judith (Peters) Birkes in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from North High School in 1983 where he participated in wrestling. After graduation he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1983-1986. He married his junior high sweetheart, Jacqueline Carstensen on September 15, 1984. Together they had 3 children; Samantha, Dustin and Conner.

Randy was a hard worker, but considered his children his greatest accomplishment. The highlight of his life was watching his children grow up and attending all their sporting events. The Birkes’ home was a frequent gathering place for his children’s friends where they were always sure to have a “roasting” session from Randy.  He also loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed listening to all venues of music, especially the songs written and sang by his brother.  Fishing and cooking were two of his favorite hobbies. He helped care for his dad, Jim prior to passing, even sneaking him outside for one last look of his yard. Randy loved and was so proud of his tattoos that were a tribute to his dad and brother.

Randy is survived by his wife; Jackie, and three children; Samantha, Dustin and Conner Birkes, mother; Judith, sister; Shelley Erwin (Bob) and a large extended family who will greatly miss him.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Jim, brother, Jim “Jimmy", Jr., niece, Rylee Erwin, and all of the pets in the backyard.
