Randall “Randy” Duane Amick, 74, of Bronson, IA, passed away on July 7, 2026. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, July 14 from 2-4:00 p.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, followed by a continued celebration at the Bronson Bar. A private family burial will be at a later date at the Bronson Cemetery.
If you stopped by Randy's house on a fall weekend, chances were the Hawkeyes or the Chiefs were on TV, the jukebox was playing, and the garage was open. He always had crockpots warming, snacks on the counter, and family and friends coming and going. Randy had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and he loved creating a space where people could gather and celebrate. Family, friends, and neighbors came and went throughout the day, and he wouldn't have had it any other way.
Randy was born on December 1, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Harley and Florence (Buckland) Amick. He graduated from Lawton-Bronson High School and built a life rooted in hard work, community, and the people he loved. Randy was first married to the late Becky (Pithan) and together they welcomed their son, Christopher. He later married Jamie (Davis) Keleher, and together they welcomed Zachary, Cody, and Barry.
Randy and Jamie (Davis) Keleher proudly co-owned and operated JR's Bar & Grill in Bronson - and Maxine's in Lawton - for many years. He also took great pride in operating Amick Construction. In recent years, he shared many happy times with his longtime companion, Sara Shumansky. Together they enjoyed dancing, listening to live music, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with family and friends. His brothers and sisters were often right there in the middle of it all. Through decades of celebrations, heartbreaks, and everything in between, they remained one another's constants.
His grandchildren brought him great joy, and he loved creating fun memories with them. Attending sporting events was one of his favorite things, always so proud to cheer his grandkids on. One Christmas, he loaded them all onto his Chiefs party bus, turned up the music, handed each of them a Target gift card, and took them shopping. He wrapped up the day with hot dogs at Milwaukee Weiner House. It wasn't just about the gifts - it was about the party and making memories. Anyone who knew Randy knew his smile. He was quick with a hug, loved a good laugh, and found genuine happiness in seeing others enjoy themselves. Few weekends brought Randy more joy than Bronson's Fourth of July celebration. He hosted the annual golf fundraiser for the fire department. Next Fourth of July, as our community celebrates, we hope you'll think of Randy. Raise a glass, put on a good song, and celebrate the way he loved best - surrounded by the people who matter most.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Christopher (Stephanie), Zachary (Bobbi), Cody (Kayla), and Barry (still looking); his grandchildren, Nellie, Abby, Arlo, Waylon, Lincoln, Caleb, Kora, Cade, and Kinsley; his longtime girlfriend, Sara Shumansky; his siblings, David (the late Lynelle), Lois, Bill (Tony), and Andy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jeanie (the late Dan Main), Allen, Rick, and Terry.
He is also lovingly remembered by Terry's wife, Tammy (Dave).
