Phyllis Ann Banta, 83, passed away quietly at her home on Friday, June 28, 2024, following a long illness. Services will be held at a later date.
She was born to Juanita Beth (Hall) and Rev. Prince Henry Yates on October 3, 1940, in Paxico, KS. Her family relocated to Sioux City when she was a child and she attended Central High School.
On June 18, 1966, she married the love of her life, Clyde Francis Banta. The couple had three children MaryBeth Banta, Clyde James Banta and Katherine Ann Banta.
Phyllis was the owner and operator of ABC Child Care Center in Sioux City for 20 years. She served her community as Chair of the Education Equity Committee for the Sioux City School District, Treasurer for the local NAACP chapter and as a CASA volunteer. In addition, she was named a Woman of Excellence by Women Aware in 1990 under the category Women Striving for Peace & Justice. Phyllis and Clyde were also foster parents to many children over a span of 30-plus years.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Clyde, her sisters Princetta Davis and Patsy Green.
She is survived by her three children, a grandson, Jordan Banta-Clark, a sister, Jenny Roguemore, and a brother Richard (Melodie) Yates and numerous children who became family over the years.
Lastly, we would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Siouxland for the outstanding care they provided our mother.
