Paul W. Johnson, 37 of Sioux City, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at a local care facility.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue, with Rev. Brian Howe, Pastor of Freedom Church in North Sioux City, officiating. Visitation 4-8 pm Tuesday, with the family present 6-8 pm and the Prayer Service at 7 pm. Paul Wesley Johnson was born on April 15, 1978 in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Paul and Jackie (Pike) Johnson. In 1987 they moved to Sioux City, and from 94-96, lived in Thorton, Colorado. While there, he worked at the Trail Dust Restaurant and also at Burger King. He moved back to Sioux City in 1996. During the 2003-2004 season, he was employed as a helper with the Explorers Baseball team. Most recently he worked at Goodwill Industries.
Paul endured many struggles in life, battling brain cancer, which was in remission in 2010, and just this March was diagnosed with Acute Luckemia.
Paul is survived by his son, Paul Johnson, Jr.; his father, Paul (Nancy O'Hern) Johnson of Sioux City; his mother, Jackie (Jeff) Van Es of Ireton, Iowa; his sisters, Crystal (David) Berger of Sioux City, and Kayla Van Es of Akron; his step-sister, Becky (Rick) Ramsey of Bellingham, Washington; his paternal grandmother, Lois Johnson of Spencer, Iowa; his nieces, Brianna Sprouse, Lillian Clay, Paige, Juliana and Sophia Berger; his nephews, Callen Berger and Allen Clay; his love of his life, Consuelo Valdez and her family; and his special mothers, mama "M" (Mary Walker) and mama Geri (Geri Valdez).
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Rolland Johnson and his maternal grandmother Arlene McDonnell and maternal grandfather, Ray Pike, Sr.
