Obituary

Paul Francis McGuirk, of Sergeant Bluff, died Friday October 16, 2026 at the age of 74. A celebration of life will be held 2:00pm Saturday, October 24th at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitaiton will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Born on December 22, 1951, Paul was the sixth child of Marguerite and Benedict McGuirk, growing up on the North Side of Sioux City. He married Mary Ellen Bueltel on May 10, 1975, in Granville, Iowa.

Paul loved few things more than cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Sioux City Explorers. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings as well as the extended McGuirk and Bueltel crew. He was a valued friend and caregiver to many in both families.

While he was proud of his teams and his family, Paul was quiet and humble about his own life. After an early retirement from Gateway, Paul spent years supporting the Sioux City community through delivering Meals on Wheels and volunteering with the Red Cross, where he traveled to support relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and the Parkersburg tornado.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Rosemary Sheehan, Macrina Sudbeck and Fr. John McGuirk, as well as many cherished cousins, in-laws, and other family.

He is survived by his wife Mary and their dog Ginger, daughter Kristina and her husband Nolan Kelly (Milwaukee); his sister Joanna and her husband Larry Lindberg (Omaha) and their children and grandchildren; sister Sr. Margaret McGuirk (Minneapolis); brother-in-law Butch Bueltel (Sioux City), and many loved nieces and nephews, especially Micky and Mark Ouellette and Pat and Tanya Bueltel and their families in Sergeant Bluff.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Siouxland food bank or Sioux City warming shelter.
