Obituary

Our mama, Patricia (Patty) Ann Hough, of Allen, Nebraska passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022, at the age of 80 at her granddaughter Ruth’s home after a long hard battle with cancer. When she found out she had cancer, she chose to fight (we would not have expected anything less!) saying “she still had

a lot of life to live!” She never gave up or complained about the pain we all knew she was enduring. It was only after her care team informed her that the treatment, she would be receiving through the radiation was only to keep her comfortable and there was no cure. She thought about it and realized that as strong as she was, God was in control. Patty is now in the loving arms of Jesus and those of us who were able to spend so much time with her these past several months, are eternally grateful for the time we had.

She was a feisty woman who loved her family and friends more than anything. A close second would be the Panda machine at the Hard Rock. There were many days that after she completed her workday at Bob’s Bar in Martinsburg, Nebraska, she would head to the Hard Rock to try her chance at the big one!

Many days she did, and some days she did not, but she always had fun AND would head home early to miss the deer on the highway.

Patricia Ann was born on August 11, 1941, in Wenatchee, Washington to Eric and Ruth Braaten. Patty grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington graduating in 1960 from Peninsula High School. She married Francis David Hough on February 3, 1960, in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and made their home in Gig Harbor, Washington. They made several moves during their lives together until settling in Sioux City, Iowa to raise their children and finally to moving to Nebraska. Patty worked at Marian Health Center for many years in Sioux City, Iowa as well as Allen Consolidated Schools in Allen, Nebraska where she eventually retired, but kept her fun part-time job at Bob’s Bar in Martinsburg, Nebraska.

Patty is survived by her brother, Marvin Braaten of Fox Island, Washington; daughter, Evelyn Koury of La Junta, Colorado, sons; Aaron (Vicki) Hough of Newcastle, Nebraska; James Hough of Irving, Texas and Justin (Zoi) Hough of Arlington, Nebraska; grandchildren; Ruthann Tiemann of Sioux City, Iowa, Samantha (Steve) Knaus of Frederick, CO, Riley (Lauren) Hough of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Allison (Alec) Green of Cartersville, Georgia; Derek (Izze) of Portage, Michigan; Rayna Hough of Edmond, Oklahoma; Taylor Adams, Tristan and Oliver Hough and Kylie Smith of Arlington, Nebraska, Justin (Sarah) Slagle, and great-grandchildren; Alexa (Keaton Wilson) Laird, Ryan Phelps; Tatum, Kingston and Kashton Knaus and brand-new Lhotse Hough, Noah, Reid, Addison, Hazel, and Melanie Slagle, and her faithful little Chihuahua Chico.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Dave Hough, her parents; Eric and Ruth Braaten and an infant son; David Hough.

Patty was a social butterfly and loved spending time with her friends, kids, grandkids, and their friends, who lovingly referred to her as “Grams.”

We miss you so much mom…..Rest peacefully with the angels.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date, to allow family and friends to attend.
