Obituary

Norman R. Semple, 90, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014.

Abiding by his wishes, the body will be cremated. There will be no services. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Norman was born on July 17, 1924, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of George and Mildred (Morehead) Semple. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Central High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served as a corpsman on the flag ship USS Auburn in charge of the Marine landings on Iwo Jima and Okinowa.

Norman was united in marriage to Madonna Edwards on May 17, 1947. He worked as a route salesman for Chesterman Co. for 30 years. He then worked at the Sioux City Auditorium in maintenance, retiring in 1986, but remained working there part-time until 2009.

He enjoyed camping in Yankton, South Dakota, and vacationing in the Black Hills.

Survivors include his wife, Madonna; five children, Mike (Denise) of Sioux city, Richard (Josie) of McCook Lake, South Dakota, Jody Cameron of Sioux City, Scott (Kay) of Lawton, Iowa, and Mark of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gene; a sister, Shirley Bushnell; and a son in infancy, Kirk.
