Norma J. Nelson, 98 of Hasting, MN. formally of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at a hospital in Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held 10:00am Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Norma was born on a farm near Irvington in Washington County, Nebraska on July 31, 1923, daughter of Walter Allen and Minnie Mixer. She grew up on the farm until she moved with her mother to Westchester, Illinois.

Norma graduated from Proviso High School in Illinois. After high school she worked as a cashier in Chicago. She became pen pals with Gordon (Bud) L. Nelson during World War II, when he was in the Navy in the Pacific.  They married on March 3, 1945, and lived in Sioux City, Iowa until his passing in 1985. She lived in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa for 30 years, then in Sugar Land, Texas and Hastings, Minnesota to be close to family.  Norma retired as Deputy Registrar of Motor Vehicles for Woodbury County, Iowa.

Survivors include son, Darryl (Camille) of Vermillion, MN; daughter, Dianne (Jonathan) of Sugar Land, TX; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gordon, and a brother, Donald (Buster).
