Monte Ray James, 55 of Sioux City, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family from a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 6, 2012.
Memorial Services will be held 11am Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Trimble United Methodist Church, 1424 27th St, Sioux City, IA. Visitation with the family will occur one hour prior to service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service. Monte's remains have been cremated following his request with burial to be at Logan Park Cemetery.
Monte was born on April 28, 1957 in Sioux City. His maternal grandmother raised him well until the time of her death. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He worked as a Signal Technician for the City of Sioux City for 37 years, retiring May 25, 2012. He was united in marriage to Susan Sears in Elk Point, SD.
Monte enjoyed golfing. He was an avid Vikings football fan his whole life. He had an appreciation for art. He himself enjoyed sketching, decorating, wood craftsmanship and nature. He loved a variety of music, his favorite band being the Beatles. He had a wonderful singing voice that he shared with few. He was a peaceful, intelligent man who will be greatly missed.
Left to treasure his memory is his soul mate and spouse, Susan, two step-sons, Benjamin Sears of South Sioux City, NE. and Rodney Lavalais of Sioux City, IA. Two step-daughters, Kilara Sears of Omaha, NE and Kayla Lavalais of Sioux City, IA. His grandchildren, Bella Sears and Sophie Sears, and numerous friends he has made over the years.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother who always had a special place in his heart.
