Monica J. Schmitz

Monica J. Schmitz, 73, of North Sioux City, South Dakota, passed away at a local care center. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday Nov 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Community Center in Jefferson, South Dakota.  Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Monica was born on March 19, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa to William and Virginia (Green) Lewis. She graduated from Riverside High School and then from Cosmetology School in 1972. She worked as a hairstylist for her own business, The Mod Shop. Monica was united in marriage to Cecil Schmitz on February 14, 1976 at the Riverside Methodist Church. Together they had 5 daughters. 

They enjoyed many camping and fishing trips. Monica ran a daycare for 39 years and raised lots of babies. She was a very social person and could talk to anyone. She loved sewing and doing crafts, playing games with the grandchildren, going for rides getting snacks, and swimming.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Cecil Schmitz; daughters: Genesis (Bill) Smutzler, Angela Odegaard, Tanya (Shawn) Morsbach, Michelle (Nick) Beaulieu, and Christina (Jeff) Johnson; 14 grandchildren: Kallie, Alexis, Courtney, Ann Marie, Reese, Jacob, Bailee, Abby, Jace, Noah, Lindsey., Aiden, Braxton and Kairon; and 5 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 grandchildren: Levi and Peyton; and a brother.
