Obituary

Mona Ann Foster, 58, of North Sioux City, SD, passed away on June 3, 2024, after a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will follow at Logan Park Cemetery.

Born on April 20, 1966, in Sioux City, IA, to Melfred and Shirley (Saul) Danielson, Mona attended West High School and worked for various local businesses. Her family and friends will always remember her for her deep compassion, selflessness, wit, and sense of humor.

Mona enjoyed gardening and doing DIY projects, but her wheelhouse was shopping for clothes, thrifting, and finding a good bargain. She had a knack for rummaging, garage sales, and scouting out the best deals. If she knew you needed or wanted something, she would find a way to get it for you. Mona loved the thrill of the hunt, getting gifts for others, and especially spoiling her grandkids. She made it her mission to get them whatever their little hearts desired, even if you didn't need or want her to.

Mona always had genuine care and concern for others. It didn't matter if you were family or someone, she had just met 10 minutes ago—she was always eager to help and quick to act. That's what filled her up. Mona would go out of her way to help someone, even if it meant sacrificing her own comfort. She would give you her last dollar if that's what it took. Caring for and doing things for others is what made her happiest.
Family gatherings meant a lot to Mona. She loved any occasion where she could cook and prepare meals, ensuring everyone had plenty to eat and, of course, something sweet. Mona was well-known for her frequent phone calls, whether to check in and see how you were doing or to wish you a happy birthday. If you were on her call list, you could count on hearing from her regularly.

Those left to honor her memory include her father and stepmother, Melfred "Dan" (Virginia Carlson) Danielson; her daughters, Jill (Nick) Topete and Kelly (Joseph) Schoener; her beloved grandchildren, Avery and Parker Topete, and Cecelia "Cece" Schoener; John Arnold and Ben Patino, whom she cared for and loved like family; her siblings, Mary "Sissy" Ruhland, Todd and Scott Danielson, and Sherry Spies; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mona is now at peace and reunited with her mother, Shirley Ann Danielson. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and forever remembered for her kindness and compassion in helping others.
