Obituary

Mildred “Millie” Frances Mulvihill, 90, of Salix, IA, passed away May 9, 2024, at a local hospital.  A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. at Salix United Methodist Church with Reverend Catie Newman officiating.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Millie was born on December 13, 1933, in Elgin, ND to Benjamin and Katherine (Rivinius) Sprecher.  She graduated from high school in 1951 and went on to X-Ray school in Wichita, Kansas where she met and later was united in marriage to George “Pat” Mulvihill on April 10, 1959, in Wichita, Kansas.  She enjoyed puzzles, crafts, fishing, eating lunch with her lunch bunch, watching sports, attending community events, and attending her grandchildren’s activities.  Millie was also an active volunteer in many different capacities for many organizations. She was a First Responder, a member of the Salix Fire Dept. Auxiliary, a volunteer for local American Legion Auxiliaries, a faithful blood donor, and was always one to offer help for any benefit that needed it or needed baked goods to sell.

Millie had a great support group to help her with everyday tasks and take her to her appointments when her loss of vision prevented her from driving and when tasks became difficult. That support was greatly appreciated! Another thank you goes to Dr. Greg Halbur for his care and compassion. He exceeded expectations and kept her around, probably longer than she wanted to be.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons: Kelly (Nancy) Mulvihill of Sloan, Michael (Tina) Mulvihill of Sioux City, daughter Sheryl (Bob) Buck of Colo, IA; six grandchildren: Cody, Dylan, Taylor, Ryan, Aaron, and Abby, and one great-grandchild Abby Pry and another on the way. One brother, Melvin Sprecher of Garland, TX.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Pat, her siblings Harold, Art, Dena, and Delores.

In hope that Millie may help others, she donated her body to be used for Anatomical Study at the University of South Dakota’s Sanford School of Medicine. As her medical ailments became more debilitating, she coined the term “I am ready to go to college.”

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Millie’s name to either Iowa Department for the Blind, LM Eliason Foundation for the hearing impaired, or the Salix City Park.
