Obituary

Mildred “Millie” C. Abrahamson, age 87, of Sloan, Iowa formerly of Sioux City passed away on Monday July 21, 2014 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday July 25, 2014 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City 4125 Orleans Avenue with Rev. Roger Madden pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the chapel.

Mildred was born in Hornick, Iowa on August 13, 1926, the daughter of James and Althea (Ryan) Mercer. She grew up in the Hornick area and attended school at Hornick. Following high school she came to Sioux City and worked for a short period of time at the Battery.

She was united in marriage with Joseph Abrahamson on May 12, 1946 in Sioux City. Joseph preceded Mildred in death in September of 1993.

Mildred was a mother, as well as assisting her husband on the family farm, she enjoyed sewing clothing for her family, as well as square dancing, and doing little craft projects. In her later years she volunteered for several years at the Siouxland Senior Center until her health would no longer allow her to do so.

Her life and memories will be lovingly remembered by her family which includes her daughters: Frances Day(Henry) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Barbara Hodges of Charleston, South Carolina, and Nancy Abrahamson of San Diego, California, as well as her brothers Ted Mercer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Richard Mercer of Luton, Iowa and her six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, and two brothers: Jim and Bob Mercer.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her name be made to the Siouxland Center for Active Generations.
