Michael "Hobee" D. Lyons

Michael “Hobee” Duane Lyons, 71, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on March 21, 2026, at a local hospital.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. The date was chosen intentionally, as April 10 was also Mike’s birthday, making the service a full-circle celebration of his life. A luncheon will follow in the funeral home’s social hall, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and continue celebrating his life.

Michael was born on April 10, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Duane and Mary (Modde) Lyons. He graduated from Bishop-Heelan High School and earned his Associate’s Degree from Western Iowa Tech. He worked as an EMT before dedicating more than 47 years of service as a Respiratory Therapist at Mercy Hospital and within the MercyOne medical community. His long career was a true point of pride and reflected the meaningful way he served others throughout his life.

Mike was a man of both brilliance and heart. He had a sharp mind, a tender spirit, and a sense of humor that kept family and friends laughing. He was fiercely loyal, stubbornly independent, and always wanted the best for everyone he loved. He cared deeply, even if he showed it in his own way, and he left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

He loved sports, from watching hockey to cheering on his great-nephews at wrestling meets, and he was the most loyal fan through-and-through. He was especially happy to see his beloved Seattle Seahawks finally win the Super Bowl, and no doubt he is still celebrating that victory in the great beyond. Mike also enjoyed tinkering and working with small engines, especially lawn mowers and cars. He dabbled in range shooting, played cribbage, and relished the time he spent with family. Whether sharing a laugh, offering his loyalty, or simply being present, Mike brought something memorable and meaningful to the lives of others.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Candi (Daniel) Martin, Steven Lyons, and Melissa (Brandon) Lederer; his grandchildren, Brady Martin, Jack Lederer, and one grandchild on the way; his sisters, Linda Frost and Lou Lyons-Bridges; as well as his beloved nephew and niece, Rick (Clara) Otto and Robin Otto, along with their children, Michael, Mitch, Katie, and Joe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Mary Lyons, and his brothers, Paul Lyons and Pat Lyons.
