Maxine L. "Mickey" Whitead, 85, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Services will be 11:30 am, Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Waterbury Funeral Service, with Pastor Tim Paul officiating. She will be laid to rest at Bella Vista Cemetery, with a private burial at a later date. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to time of service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
Maxine was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Herbert and Lowell (Clements) Langley, Sr. She attended Sioux City and Westfield, Iowa schools. She was raised mostly in Sioux City, and surrounding farms. She retired from the Sioux City School system in 1996. She was a proud member of the Westside Church of Christ in Akron, IA for 30 years, and later joined Tri State Christian Church in 1992. Maxine has been sending cards for several years to church members for their birthdays, anniversaries, and in times of illness. She also frequently sent cards to our military overseas. Maxine taught Sunday School for many years, taught Brownies for 2 years, and Cub Scouts for 12 years.
Survivors include her ten children and their spouses, Edna (Dave) Mosher of Sioux City, Babette Harris of Akron, IA, Lucy (Mike) Colt of Akron, IA, Herbert (Barbara) Lias Sr. of Sioux City, Dennis (Jodi) of Bagdad, Arizona, Shari (Larry) Harvey of Custer South Dakota, Mike (Lori) Lias of Plattsmouth Nebraska, Dwight (Vikki) Whitead of Concordia, Kansas, Brian (Sandra) Whitead of Sioux City, Merritte (Kim) Whitead of Sioux City; 29 grandchildren; 65 great grand children; sister, Grace Samson; brother, Herbert (Nancy) Langley Jr; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gwen Walker.
