Mary J. Smith 96, of Sioux City Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at a local nursing home.  Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Whitfield United Methodist Church, 1319 W 5 ^th Street, Sioux City. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.

Mary was born August 25, 1925 in Hornick, Iowa the daughter of Walter and Cecile (Madden) Steele.

She graduated in 1943 in Hornick, Iowa and attended one year at Wayne State College. On October 18, 1946 she married Wayne Smith in Dakota City, NE. They lived in Sioux City for a short time, and then moved to Hornick, IA., where they farmed.

She loved to collect many items over the years and was a great cook who enjoyed cooking. Wayne and Mary loved to go driving around the country side.

Mary is survived by her son, Bob (Tammi), two daughters, Carolyn Ramsaran, Patty Sarff, sister, Jeanie (Darrel) Dunbar, 16 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren, and numerous great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne who passed in 1983, daughter, Donna Wilder, her son, Chuck Smith, two grandchildren, Heidi Jo Wilder and Dustin Wilder, one great great granddaughter Briella Andresen, two sisters, Lucille Shaffer and Gloria Steinhoff , one brother, Clifford Steele and two son-in laws, Rick Ramsaran and Lowell Sarff.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
