Mary J. Held, 82, of Kingsley, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23 at Waterbury Funeral Service with Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating.
Mary was born February 2, 1931 in Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Phillips) Modde.
She attended Woodbury County rural schools. Mary married Duane P. Lyons in 1951 at St. Jean Catholic Church in Sioux City. Mary and Duane moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1956 and Duane passed away in 1962 in Tacoma. In 1969, Mary returned to Sioux City, moved to Minneapolis in 1976, then retired back to Sioux City in 2003.
Mary enjoyed reading and caring for her houseplants, she also loved to cook and watch soap operas. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her sons Michael Lyons of Sioux City and Patrick Lyons of Washington, daughters Linda Frost of Sioux City, and Lucian (Mark) Hawkins of Washington, brother Charlie Modde of Washington D.C., sisters Margaret Hunhoff of Yankton, South Dakota and Annette Menig of Washington, nine grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Paul Lyons, six brothers, and one sister.
