Obituary

Mary E. Erickson, 84 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away on Thursday May 2, 2013 at a local Hospital. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Services will be held 2:30 pm Monday, May 6, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix with Rev. Patrick O’Kane officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation Sunday evening 5-8 pm, with the family present 6-8 pm at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Mary was born on August 10, 1928 in Pipestone, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Kathryn Wanderscheid. Mary was married to Darrel Erickson on November 14, 1969 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. For many years, Mary had owned her businesses; she successfully ran a group home and ceramic shop.

Mary has cared for her paralyzed daughter for over 50 years. She was an avid gardener. Mary was able to make everyone feel welcome in her home; and she enjoyed cooking for her family. She loved her pets and occasional keno with her family and friends.

Mary is survived by her children, Carl (Skip) and Linda Santee of Norfolk, Nebraska, Kathy and Bill Pearson of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Mary and Dusty Small of Sioux City, Iowa, Judy and Dave Miner of South Sioux City, Ricky Erickson of South Sioux City; eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; one sister and best friend, Paula Wagner of Salix; two step children; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mary is preceded in death by both parents, brother; Bob Wanderscheid, sister Patty, grandchildren Brandy Robertson, Melissa Hansen, and Chance and Brady Ostrihonsky and Joseph Robertson.

Mary's life revolved around her family and friends and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
