Mary Elizabeth Andersen, age 86, of Terre Haute, Indiana, formerly of Sioux City passed away on Saturday February 4, 2012 in Terre Haute surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am Friday February 10, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-8pm with the family present from 6-8 with the Rosary recited at 6:30pm and a Vigil service held at 7:00pm at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Mary was born on October 24, 1925 in Algona, Iowa the daughter of Irene Sifert and Charles D. Gunder. She was raised by her loving foster parents Ethel and Ton Hanlon. She graduated from North High School in Algona with the class of 1945.
Mary was united in marriage with Hans Andersen on August 25, 1953, in Des Moines,Iowa, Hans preceded her in death on October 1, 1997 in Sioux City. Mary was a stay at home mom, who enjoyed baking, fishing, bingo and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by four daughters: Mary Ann Andersen of Sioux City, Margaret Carver of Lincoln, Nebraska, Katherine Peters (Patrick) of Liberty, Missouri and Ruthie LaTelle of Terre Haute, Indiana. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, and her two sisters Isabellia Roelens of Rollings, Illinois and Betty Ressler of Des Moines.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her foster parents, her daughter Kristine Thompson, her brother Charles Gagen, and her foster brother Tommy Hanlon.
