Mary Michaeleen Adams

Mary Michaeleen Adams, 83, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 20, 2026 after battling cancer for 8 years. A visitation with family present will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue. A private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Mary was born on February 23, 1943, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Carroll and Helen (Humphrey) Schubert. She was a member of the first graduating class of Riverside High School in 1962.

On January 16, 1963, she married Harry James “Jim” Adams. Mary and Jim raised their four daughters in Riverside, where they enjoyed bowling together and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on their children and grandchildren at their events. Mary worked in the lunchrooms at Riverview Elementary and Riverside Junior High School before embracing one of her favorite roles—caring for her grandchildren.

Mary found joy in shopping and giving gifts to those she loved. Her family will always cherish how she made Christmas Eve so special. She enjoyed visiting with neighbors over coffee, watching her favorite shows, and opening her home to family and friends. Neighborhood children affectionately knew her as "Grandma Mary," and neighborhood dogs quickly learned that her house always had the best treats waiting for them. More than anything, Mary treasured time spent with those she loved. Her grandkids will miss some of her best recipes, especially her chocolate pie.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Jim Adams; her daughters, Melinda (Scott) Vogt, Shelly (Steve) Martinsen, Rhonda (Steve) Sachs, and Jamie (Dale) Duncan; grandchildren, Andrew (Rachel) Vogt, Ashley Vogt, Brooke Duncan, Grant (Nalani) Duncan, Brenden (Jordan Vlotho) Martinsen, Mavis Sachs, Sydney Martinsen, and Keaton Duncan; honorary grandchildren, Amanda (Hagaman) Marks and Zach Hagaman; great-grandchildren, Imani, Blakely, Lena, Faye, Connor, Jace, and Daxon; brothers: Gary (Betsy) Schubert of Sioux City, Iowa and Jim (Donna) Schubert of Sarasota, Florida; sister, Debbie (Jim) Marshall and her beloved cat, Doug.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Karen.

The family would like to say a big thank you to St. Croix Hospice for their love and care over the past few months.
