Marvin Floyd Fickbohm, 89, of Sioux City, IA passed away peacefully at Floyd Place Retirement Home in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa on September 17, 2026. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Hills Baptist Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5:00 p.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Marvin Floyd Fickbohm, a twin, was born in Union County, South Dakota near Beresford on August 1, 1937 to Alvin and Agnes (Wolden) Fickbohm who have preceded him in death, as well as his twin sister Marian.
He graduated from Wakonda High School in Wakonda, SD and attended Springfield Teachers’ College, USD, and University of Northern Colorado on his way to his education degrees.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Joan Osnes-Fickbohm; a daughter, Jana Erdmann (married to Paul); and three sons, Darrel (& Maggie), Brent (& Linda) and Blaine (& Lisa). He is also survived by his three brothers, Robert, of Newell, SD, Wilbur Fickbohm (& Doris) of Centerville, SD, and Dean Fickbohm (& Kay) of Aiken, SC; ten grandchildren with a great-grandchild on the way, as well as many other relatives and friends.
He loved music above most things in life, and it made him think of family get-togethers over the years. He never tired of simply watching the sunset. His room was specially chosen so that he could see it. It was a daily miracle to him.
He planted thousands of trees and missed being on the farm. Many trees that he first planted are mature and towering by now, mostly in places where few people walk.
He constantly talked about family getting together and his memories of the music and laughter of a unified family were his best.
