Mark D. Hartman, 57, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at his residence. Services will be held 10:30 am, Friday, September 15, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 pm,Thursday, September 14, at the funeral home. Mark has requested that those attending his service dress casually, preferably in Vikings or Hawkeye apparel. There will be a gathering at Bob Roe's Point After on Transit Ave. following the burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mark was born on September 27, 1959 in Sioux City to Richard and Lois (Finch) Hartman. He graduated from West High School in 1978. Mark worked at John Morrell for many years, starting in high school and ending his career there as a hog buyer. He also worked at Johnson Feed, Inc. in North Sioux City.
Mark played on the Junior Musketeers Hockey team and was an avid MN Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes football fan. Being outdoors was very energizing to Mark. He loved visiting the Black Hills, snowmobiling, going for walks, just being in nature.
When Mark was diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer, he decided to fight. Fight for himself and for others that were battling cancer. He was involved in multiple clinical trials searching for a cure, all while continuing to work. Mark was very strong and proud of the effort he had put towards finding a cure. "The journey has begun....the journey has ended with God."
Survivors include Debra Bell of Sioux City; step mom, Karen Hartman; ; brother, Matt Hartman and his children, Brandon (Stephanie) and their family, Ashley (Eric) and their family, and Colby; sister, Lori (Mike) Martin and their children, Brittani (Jon) and family, Cameron (Lauren), Austin (Megan) and family, and Andrea (Anthony) and family. Also survived by Ashley (Brandon) Johnson and their children, Isaiah, Adan, and Elijah, Wesley (Alysa) Foster and their child, Lane; Debra's children, Quentin (Ranae) Bell and their child, Bryan and one on the way, Stephanie Nyreen and her children, Lathyn and Zachary, and Megan and Dave Munro and their children, Libby and Declan; Mark was also survived by his beloved dog, Dakota.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; and dog, Sugar.
