Marjorie R. Nelson, 85, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 at a local hospital. Services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, November 22, 2013 at First Covenant Church with Rev. Dan Doran officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Waterbury Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie was born on February 19, 1928 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of David and Ellen (Dahlstrom) Carlson. She married John R. Nelson on June 12, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois. Together they moved to Sioux City, John passed away on April 10, 2008. Marjorie worked for Sioux City Public Schools, retiring in the mid 1980's.
Marjorie was an active member of First Covenant Church, where she was the former organist and choir director, and was also involved in the Covenant Women group. Marjorie was a former golfer, a member of the Sun Valley Thursday Women Golf Club, TTT Chapter FA, PEO MK Chapter, VASA, and a member of the Retired Educators. Marjorie enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and she loved to travel, wintering in Florida.
Survivors include her son John Nelson and his wife Suzanne of Northfield, Illinois, daughters Kathy Miller and her husband Perry of Sioux City, Libby Kessler and her husband Darin of Ames, Iowa, brother Dale Carlson and his wife Evelyn of Galesburg, Illinois, grandchildren Craig Nelson and his wife Sara, Kari Johnson and her husband Neal, Jeff, David, and Katie Miller, and Cody and Lauren Kessler, and great-grandchild Jack Nelson.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
