Marilyn Niemeyer, 78, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on December 29th, 2023 at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City 4125 Orleans Ave, SC, IA. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
Marilyn was born on May 4, 1945 to Teunis "Tom" and Martha (Dyshoorn) DeBruin at home in Rock Valley, Iowa. She grew up in Rock Valley and attended Rock Valley High School. She worked for many years at Otis Radio in Canton, South Dakota. Marilyn DeBruin met Ed Niemeyer in Rock Valley, Iowa. They married June 12, 1972 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They first moved to Sioux City, Iowa then lived on a farm near Eagan, South Dakota before moving back to Sioux City, settling and raising their family in Leeds. She worked in Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivables with Ed in their many trucking companies and other businesses. Retiring in 2005 she spent a lot of time as a caregiver to Ed until his passing. Marilyn and Ed had just celebrated their 51st anniversary earlier this year before he passed away.
Marilyn enjoyed using her spare time going to auctions, collecting snowmen and gnomes, going out to eat with friends, and having coffee and visiting with her many friends. She was always the first to help a friend in need. She loved spending time with her family, especially her kids and grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Misti (Tom) Merrill, Eddie (Alicia) Niemeyer, Gene Niemeyer, and Annette ( Tony) Roman; grandchildren: Loren, Austin (Tom), Jaxson, Cameren, and Dima; brother Marv (Gleora) DeBruin: sisters, Mildred (Delmar) Rozeboom, and Wanda (Wilmer) Wynia.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed; and her sons Mark Robbins and Dean Niemeyer.
