Dedicated wife, loving mother, and grandmother, Marilyn Joann Christensen entered into eternal life on October 10, 2013. Marilyn was born on September 29, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to Gerald and Harriet Dames. After graduating from Central High School, Marilyn married the love of her life and favorite checkers partner, Marvin E. Christensen with whom she had three children (2 boys and 1 girl). Throughout their 61 years of marriage she and Marvin were inseparable. Always holding hands and giving each other caring eyes.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Marilyn during her 82 years, among them: never say the lord’s name in vain, never say mean things about anybody; “they are poor souls to pray for,” and give to every charity that asks. Choose to believe the best about what they do with your money, no matter what your children say they discovered online.
Marilyn was a wonderful example of faith, hope, and generosity who made sure that you never left hungry or empty handed. She was infamous for her ability to make a mean meatloaf, scrumptious sugar cookies, and a to die for German chocolate cake (which may or may not of had something to do with her strong German heritage). She had a true passion and talent for gardening, drawing, painting, playing the piano, and sewing. A self-proclaimed, material and sewing pattern addict, we have no doubt that Hancock Fabrics lost its most loyal customer! Nevertheless, between her extraordinary cooking, baking, and stitching skills, Martha Stewart had nothing on her!
Marilyn also loved to tell stories. And you could be sure 50% of every story was true. You just never knew which 50%.
An avid lover of animals, especially cats, she contributed greatly to the decline of the feral and homeless cat population as over the years she took in and spoiled several, each of which she loved unconditionally.
She will forever be remembered as a remarkable woman with an irreplaceable soul. Here’s to you, Marilyn. May God appreciate your receipt. We’ll do our best to take care of Marvin.
