Obituary

Maria R. Sibayan, 85 of Sioux City, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at her residence.

Graveside service will be held 11:00am Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4-8pm with family present from 6-8pm Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Maria Sibayan was born on March 26, 1930 in the Philippines, the daughter of Gregorio and Miguela Resquicio.

When she finished school Maria was hired as a personal housekeeper and held various jobs supporting herself and her family. She then married her husband, Santos Sibayan and together had 5 wonderful daughters. She became a U.S. citizen in 1981 and lived in Sioux City with her daughter Virginia and son-in-law Allan until her passing.

Maria worked at Aalfs Manuf. for a short time becoming a crafty seamstress. Maria loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Everyone who knew Maria knew she loved gardening and never missed a year without growing one. She also loved fishing and often cooked delightful dishes from the fish she caught. She loved caring for her grandchildren and thus was affectionately called "Nay" which means mom in Tagolog.

Nay spent most of her time talking about her life and family history reminiscing about the good times. She would always look for an opportunity to teach her family all the things she learned during her life giving them things to pass on to their family.

Nay was a deeply loved and cherished mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and of course friend. Nay was the most kind and giving person anyone could ever know. Nay lived a full and happy life and was always reminded of how much she was truly loved. Nay's memory will always remain alive in the hearts of all those who dearly loved and cherished her the most. Maria, "Nay," will be truly and deeply missed.

Maria is survived in death by her brother Isiedro & sister Tomasa; daughters Virginia & her husband Allan Sewalson, Rosalinda, Felicia, & Erlinda; grandchildren Byron & wife Bridget Sewalson, Myko Williams, Miller Sibayan, Kenneth, Kate, Jason, Maria Teresa, Jacklyn & Michelle; & great-grandchildren.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband Santos; her parents; an oldest brother and brother Andres, sister Miyeng; daugther Nenita and grandsons Aaron Sewalson and Leonard.
