Obituary

Margaret J. Hainline, 82, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 at a local hospital. Services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Community United Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8pm and a prayer service at 7pm at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Services are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Margaret was born June 23, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Anna (McKinney) Peterson. She graduated from Afton High School in Afton, Iowa in 1948 and worked as a switchboard operator. Margaret married William Gary “Bill” Hainline in Oceola, Iowa on April 18, 1949. They moved to the air force base in Mountain Home, Idaho, while Bill was in the military. Returning to the area in 1956, where they made their home in Sergeant Bluff. Bill passed away in 1984.

Margaret worked as a cashier at Bellas Hess, sold Avon, and worked at the Sergeant Bluff schools, first in the school lunch program and later as secretary to the principal. After leaving the school district, she worked as a secretary for the Sergeant Bluff City Hall. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, UMW member, and a member of the Legion Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed Johnny Cash music and loved watching old movies; she was a big fan of John Wayne. Margaret and Bill loved going camping with friends. She had a soft heart for animals and had many pet dogs and cats throughout her life, she enjoyed watching and feeding birds and squirrels.

Survivors include her daughters Leslie Ellerbeck and her husband Darrel, and Kathy Erickson and her husband Dan, all of Sergeant Bluff, grandchildren Dawn Roorda and her husband Derrick, Eran Ellerbeck, and Heath Erickson, great-grandchildren Madeline and Miles Roorda, Laryn, Madysen, and Reygan Erickson.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and infant daughter, Melissa, and five brothers: Charles, Herbert, Edgar, Harvey, and Marvin.
