Obituary

Margaret Ardelle Getchell, age 65, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday August 19, 2014 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday August 23, 2014 at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City with Pastor Gene Stockton of Heartland Community Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Michigan. The family has chosen to cancel the visitation previously announced for Friday evening. Visitation will follow the service Saturday at the church. Margaret was born on January 18, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Chester and Dora “Biederman” Corden. She attended and graduated from Dearborn Michigan schools. Upon completion of her high school education, she attended community college.

She was united in marriage with Ted Getchell on May 21, 1977 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1979, then came to Sioux City in 1993.

Margaret worked for several years as the assistant to the director at C.A.S. A. retiring in 2012. She continued to serve the community as a volunteer at C.A.S.A. as well as serving at Siouxland Youth For Christ, The Boy’s and Girl’s Home, The Crittenden Center and the J.D. Center. She also was an active member of Heartland Community Baptist Church. Margaret was the current Prayer Team Leader at her church, had conducted bi-weekly Bible Studies in her home since 1982, and always loved to read her bible.

Her life and memories will always be remembered by her family which includes her husband Ted of Sioux City, her son Bryan Getchell and his wife Debbie of Sioux City, daughter Michelle Barker of Seymour, Missouri, daughter Dawn Gengler and her husband Tom of Sioux City, and son Rick Getchell and his wife Michelle of Ypsilanti, Michigan. She is also survived by her brother Dale Corden of Novi, Michigan and her 10 grandchildren and her 5 great-grandchildren.
