Margaret Ann Breland, 70, of Sioux City, passed away October 23, 2011 at a local hospital. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 At Third Presbyterian Church with Reverend David Choate officiating. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the church.
Margaret was born October 7, 1941 in Sioux City, the daughter of Isaac and Evelyn (Roulliard) James. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High. Margaret married Delbert “Pete” Breland on June 26, 1976 at the Third Presbyterian Church. She spent many years working at Wincharger Company, later at Urban Renewal. Margaret also worked for the Sioux City School District as an elementary substitute teacher. Later she worked for PTI and Dial America, retiring in 1998. Margaret was an excellent seamstress and made many stuffed animals: “Huggables by Breland,” she collected dolls, went to many rummages and auctions, she looked forward to shopping trips and couponing, and loved to bake cookies, pies, and banana bread for people. Family vacations were very important to her. Margaret had a love for dogs, especially Pomeranians, and loved her Cadillac’s. Margaret was a member of Third Presbyterian Church and was a Deacon and a long time Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her son Paul James and his girlfriend Jill Redding of Sioux City, her grandchildren Sunnie and Miles Ludwigs, her brother Cliff James and his wife Jean of Sioux City, sisters Eleanor Crosser and her husband Darrel of Arizona, Joann Rafael and her husband Harvey of California, Doris Shields of California, Donna Muecke and her husband Greg of Hinton, and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Lory Ludwigs, son Jimmy James, and four brothers Harry, Larry, and Ralph “Jesse” James.
Memorials may be directed to the family. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul, Brian, Scott, and Phil James, Sonny Powell, and Zach Muecke.
