Margaret E. Atwood, 87, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
Margaret was born on August 28, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Glen and Gladys (Mitchell) Beman. Margaret graduated from East High School in 1945. She worked at JC Penny during her junior and senior years of school and after high school. Margaret was united in marriage to William “Bill” Atwood on November 22, 1946, in Sioux City. With the birth of their daughter in 1949, she became a full-time homemaker.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Judy and her husband David Twining of Blue Grass, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jess and his wife Katie Bender, Kate and her husband Mike Torevell; and two great grandsons, Gabe and Marik Torevell; her sister Sandi Edler and her husband Craig Timmerman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant son Dennis in 1947; her husband Bill in August 2009; her parents; and two sisters and two brothers.
Margaret was known for her kind heart and her ability to see the best in every person she met. She will be missed by all who knew her.
