Malinda "Linda" Barrett, 96, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016.
Funeral service will be held 1:00pm Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Concordia Lutheran Church with a luncheon from 11-1 before the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.
Malinda was born February 2, 1920 in rural Dixon County near Norfolk Nebraska to Anna and Wilhelm Bartling. She was 1 of 4 children. When she was 6 the family moved to Sholes Nebraska. She attended Sholes Consolidated School, graduating in 1937.
She moved to Sioux City in 1943 and worked at the Battery Factory for 8 years.
Malinda married Dewayne Barrett on August 16, 1948. They had 2 daughters, Annette James and Sandra Swick, both of Sioux City. She has 6 grandchildren, Amy, Dan, Amanda, Dustin, Tim, and Taylor and 11 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brianna, Charlotte, Danny, Devin, Emily, Ashley, Malynda, Isabelle, Natalie, and Makenna, all of Sioux City.
She has been a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 13 years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the school library at Crescent Park Elementary school for 6 years.
Malinda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Leroy, and 3 sisters, Leona Jarvis, Elvira Jarvis and, recently her baby sister, Edna Whitlock.
