Luke was born at their home west of Ronan, Montana on May 20, 1925, the son of Nicholas and Regina (Trahan) Dellwo. Luke attended school in Ronan and Charlo, MT, graduating as an honor student in 1943. He excelled in football, baseball, boxing and track while in school.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1944, serving his country during WWII. On September 8, 2008 he was privileged to be able to go on the” Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC” to see the memorials in remembrance of those who served. Although those years are a time in his life that weren’t talked about a lot, it was apparent he was proud of the task he performed. He received several medals including: Bronze star, American Campaign, Philippine Liberation, good conduct, victory, combat infantry and Asiatic Pacific campaign. He was an expert infantry man and rifleman while in the seventh infantry division.

In 1946, he met Opal Nettie Oldis while in Washington State and on April 9, 1948 they were united in marriage in Wenatchee, Washington. Together, they were blessed with 3 sons: Michael, Larry and Ricky. That same year they moved to Hornick, IA where Luke was engaged in farming for many years. When Luke decided to retire from farming , Sgt. Bluff is where they called home. He was employed by the city of Sgt. Bluff in the maintenance department for many years. He also enjoyed working at Earl May where he was able to use his knowledge of plants and trees. He enjoyed gardening so that he could “give away” the fruits of his labor. Luke was an active member of several local organizations- the American Legion, Post 662 of Sgt. Bluff for 52 years, city council member, fire department and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix.

Luke is survived by sons- Michael (Rose Kruizenga) Dellwo, Larry (Mary Jo Schramm) Dellwo and Ricky Dellwo; grandchildren-Joe (Sherae Muller) Dellwo, Tom (Janelle Mersch) Dellwo, Alison (Chris) Evangelisti, Emily (Justin) Gutzmann and Amanda Dellwo. Another source of joy were his great grandchildren- Cole, Avery and Adelyn Rininger, Luke and Evan Dellwo, Hannah Dellwo, Lane Gutzmann and step great grandchildren Liberty and Hudson Evangelisti. Also surviving is his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Eldon) Long and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Opal (Dec 4, 2008), brothers Edward, Henry, William, Nicholas, Joseph, Darold, Francis and sisters, Loretta, Gertrude and Aurise. Sisters-in-law Marian Hansen and Lela Oldis, Brothers-in-law Erland Hansen and Ronald Oldis.
