Obituary

Lucinda Tenter Godfredson of Ponca, Nebraska died peacefully on Friday, February 4, 2022 at a hospital in Sioux City with her loving husband by her side. She is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was 73. There will be a Celebration of Life service at a later date in California. Cremations services are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Home, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Lucinda was born on Friday, October 29, 1948 in Eureka, California, the daughter of Frank and Cecelia (Call) Tenter. She was the youngest of six children. She grew up on an orchard farm near Ukiah, CA and later moved to a moved to a ranch nearby Anderson, CA. Growing up, Lucinda adored her horse and one particular squirrel, a toilet paper bandit, who was affectionately named Stinky. She often recalled the freedom she shared with her siblings and other children romping in the beautiful outdoors.

Lucinda was a loving, self-sacrificial mother to her two children, Rebecca Lynn and Danny Edward. She played games and shared her beautiful voice with them. She had a special song for each child. For Danny, You are My Sunshine. For Rebecca, A Bushel and a Peck. Anything Lucinda could do for her kids, she would. She cared for them well, passed on her laugh and love of family, and instilled in them a creative spirit and deep love of God.

On July 16, 1978 she was united in marriage to Roger Godfredson at the Rochford Chapel in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After living in the Black Hills and Paradise, CA, they moved to Iowa in 1981 and
eventually to Ponca, NE in 1990. Lucinda worked diligently at a number of jobs to provide for the ones she loved. No matter the place, from retail, to babysitting, to elderly care, Lucinda valued more than the paycheck; she saw her work as an opportunity to see people, meet their needs, and love them well. Upon retirement, there were many road trips with her husband. Their frequent destination was California, to visit family, especially the grandchildren who were so very dear to her heart. Along the way they visited many places, including the Pacific north coast (her favorite destination), the Grand Tetons, Washington State, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and the Atlantic coast. Sea to shining sea of this Great Nation she loved.

Lucinda's love for horses continued into adulthood. Roger built her a beautiful barn for her dark brown pal Jubilee, who loved sugar cubes and Roger's tomatoes. She also enjoyed sewing and watching sewing and quilting shows. She had an unquenchable love for reading and cherished reading God's word; she treasured the prayers, cries, and praises woven together in the Psalms.

God's creation kept her in awe and wonder for all of her life. The beauty of each sunset, her enchanting and mischievous hummingbirds, and the trees in full bloom pointed her back to the one who made her. She planted flowers outside her home and showered all she loved with warm hugs that left you feeling fully held and wanting another.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband Roger of Ponca; son, Danny Flom and his wife Barb of Redding, CA; daughter Rebecca Reis of Santa Rosa, CA; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews across the fruited plain.

Lucinda was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cecelia Tenter; brothers Frank Jr. and Darrel Tenter; sisters Della Currie, Adrienne Velarde, and Janice Kirk.

"A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman, who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls." - Proverbs 31:10
