Lorraine “Becky” E. (McCann) McCarthy, 85, of Duluth, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. there will be a Celebration of Life for Becky at the Hampton Inn, 5555 Sergeant Road, Sioux City, Iowa.
Becky was born April 3, 1940, at St. Cloud Hospital, to John J. and Marguerite (Sartell) McCann. The family moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1941 and moved again in 1955 to Sioux City, Iowa where she graduated from East High School.
Becky was married to Paul S. McCarthy in 1958 and they had 4 children: Paul, Theresa, David and Gary. They later divorced. In September 1968 Becky began a wonderful and rewarding career on the Great Northern Railroad in the clerical department, retiring in 2002 from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. In 1976 she met the love of her life, Stuart (Stu) E. Sievert and after a lengthy and committed long distance romance she remarried in 1988. They enjoyed the years together; spending time with family at all the many gatherings and holidays.
After retiring, Becky and Stu would spend their winters in Parr, TX; summers in Duluth, MN and their cabin in Wascott, WI.
Becky is survived by her 3 children: Paul of Duluth, MN, Theresa of Lead, SD and David and Amy of Superior, WI; 6 grandchildren: Sara, Theresa, David Jr., Daniel, Breanna and Brandon; 13 great grandchildren: Alaina, Amelia, Aubrey, Eli, Amira,Alexis, Ezra, Alijah, Isis, Ashton, Odessa, Marcel and Audrianna; brothers: Pat, Tim and Bill; sisters: Barb, Pam, Shelly and Molly; sisters-in-law: KC Donna and Donna P; brother-in-law, Bob Lessard and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Becky is preceded in death by her husband Stuart; youngest son, Gary; granddaughter Brandi Jean; parents John and Marguerite; brothers Jack and Thom; brother-in-law Randy Hoing and sisters-in-law Beverly, Norma and Jackie.
