Obituary

Loretta F. Haakinson, 82 of Salix, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Memorial Service 10:30 am Tuesday at the Salix Community United Methodist Church, with Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service at the church. Burial will be at Sloan Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to www.waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com.

Loretta was born on August 5, 1931 in Sloan, Iowa, the daughter of Irvin and Geneva (Allen) Baker. She graduated in 1949 from Sloan High School. On July 3, 1950, Loretta was united in marriage to Harold Haakinson. They lived in Sloan until 1979, when they moved to Sioux City. Harold died on December 7, 1994.

Loretta worked at Schwartz's grocery, Bellas Hess and owned Loretta's Market in Sloan. She retired from Interbake in 1994. She enjoyed playing Bingo and card games. Loretta also enjoyed reading books. Loretta was a member of the Salix Community United Methodist Church.

Loretta is survived by her daughters, Debra and her husband Tom Templeton of Onawa, Diane and her husband Warren Spencer of Salix, Patricia Moore of Garden City, Kansas, and Rhonda and her husband Randy Samson of Salix; her sisters, Shirley Salisbury of Hobart, Indiana, Gerri and her husband Gordon Copple of Sloan, and Connie Holman of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; and her sister in-law, Shirley and her husband Dale Hewlett of Palm Desert, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Evelyn Salberg.
