Lola was born the oldest of five children to Pete and Amanda (Jansen) Hollander May 17, 1938, in Edna, lowa. She attended school in Rock Rapids, lowa, later graduating from Magnolia High School in Magnolia, Minnesota. Following high school Lola worked in Washington, D.C. for about a year prior to returning to Minnesota where she worked for North Central Airlines in Minneapolis. It was in Minnesota that she met Donald Wulf. She was with her future sister-in-law when, according to Don, she saw his "flashy car" -a 1957 Dodge two door hardtop going down Main Street. Her friend Loretta, dating Don's brother Henry, arranged a meeting and it was history from there. Lola and Donald W. Wulf were united in marriage at the State Line Presbyterian Church in Rock County, Minnesota on June 12, 1959. To this union, four children were born: Michael, Joan, and two daughters who passed away in infancy.
Lola was raised in the Presbyterian Church, the couple raising their children there as well. Lola and Don served as deacons together, taking their children along to deliver flowers to church members in nursing homes/ shut- in's, amongst other things. She was also a member of Naomi Circle and the Red Hat Society for fun. In later years the couple became members of Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Lola and Don made their home in a number of different states prior to returning to Sioux City, lowa in 1977. Don still resides on the same acreage they bought in 1977. Lola enjoyed gardening, canning, and her family genealogy, even publishing a couple books on her family lineage. The couple enjoyed sharing with their children a love of the outdoors, taking them on countless camping trips. They also exposed them to many National Parks and were famous for telling them to sit back and "enjoy the scenery" while driving on long car trips. Later, she was always happy to make time for her grandchildren and invited them on camping trips as well. Lola gifted her children with a love of reading, spending many hours reading to them and taking trips to the library.
She was an accomplished quilter having completed and gifting numerous quilts. She enjoyed volunteering her time making quilts with a group of ladies in Morningside Lutheran Church. Lola worked part time as a secretary in a couple different churches. Later, she sold Mary Kay and loved to tell others about the products. Lola and Don have spent most winters of late at their winter destination in South Texas. They enjoyed making friendships there as well as the beautiful weather. The only winter they missed since starting to travel to a warmer climate was in 2013 when Lola successfully battled breast cancer.
Lola is remembered by her husband of 64 years, Don, Sioux City; son Michael (Cynthia) Wulf, Sioux City, IA, daughter Joan (Randy) Reis, Waukee, Iowa; grandchildren: Jason (Maggie) Wulf, Jennifer Wulf, Stephanie Wulf, Christine Wulf, Sophie Reis, Isabella Reis, Maxwell Reis, Jack Reis. Siblings Dennis Hollander, Leander (Judy) Hollander, brother-in-law Milton (Twila) Lauck, sister-in-law Julie Hollander and other family.
